YOGA
The word ‘yoga’ comes from the Sanskrit root word ‘yug’ which means ‘to unite’. Yoga is the union of individual consciousness with the Infinite Consciousness, it is a merger of the individual soul with the Universal Soul. As humans we have a tendency to experience our own capacities and reality in a limited way. Yoga is a spiritual science of self-realisation, which awakens and expands our awareness so we can transform and transcend our self-imposed limitations and realise our full potential.
Originating in India, yoga can be traced back over five thousand years. This ancient practice encompass the entire field of our existence: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Its methods include physical postures, breath control and meditation as well as ethical disciplines. Yoga is an unfolding of our essential nature, it enables us to come home to ourselves as we truly are, be of service to others and live a healthy, happy life.
The main styles of yoga we teach at the Sanctuary are Kundalini, Vinyasa and Yin.
