Does this sacred gland hold the secret to overcoming Covid-19?

At Sen Wellness our mission is to enhance your wellbeing and to help empower you to take your health into your own hands. Being holistic in our approach and inspired by sacred healing traditions, we are passionate about sharing ancient wisdom to aid your ascension to greater health and happiness. As we prepare to reopen our Sanctuary in the coming months and are concocting special wellness programmes to help you navigate and transcend the challenges of these times, we were intrigued and excited when we came across research citing scientists’ emerging discovery of T-Cells as equally important to antibodies in the fight against Covid-19. T-Cells are produced in a small gland called the thymus, which sits just above the breast bone, on top of the heart. From the Western medical perspective, the thymus gland is linked to our lymphatic and immune systems, helping us to fight infection. It is especially active during childhood and then starts to deteriorate after adolescence. In our work treating patients over the last 25 years, we have helped many attain a state of vibrant health by working with the energetic body. The thymus gland is also an important centre in the body’s meridian system, mapped out in ancient Chinese medicine, and the chakra energy centres in the subtle body. The location of the thymus is also significant. It is positioned within the heart meridian, as well as the lesser-known higher heart chakra, representing the transpersonal aspect of the heart; unconditional divine love and compassion. It is therefore unsurprising that the thymus can hold a lifetime’s worth of unprocessed emotions such as anxiety, sadness and grief, stuck in layers of the physical and energetic body and affecting our vibrational frequency. Our ancestors knew the innate intelligence and wisdom of the sacred thymus! The ancient Chinese, Indian yogic, Egyptian, and Mayan traditions all recognised that to open our thymus is to open and infuse our lives with forgiveness, love, and compassion. For this reason, many of them performed special healing techniques and ceremonies to activate the thymus. Thymus self-care is particularly important and potent at a time when the fear response is on high alert and we encourage you to cleanse this energetic centre to optimise its function and stimulate the production of T-Cells. The thymus is very sensitive to both positive and negative sounds, and sound therapy can help to restore balance to your chakra. Those of you who have ever been to a retreat in Sri Lanka or a workshop at our London Clinic will know how we often weave the gong and other sound techniques into our healing programmes. There are also a few simple practices that you can try at home to stimulate the flow of energy, move through blockages and bring about harmony and equilibrium: 1. If you have a singing bowl at home you can try lying down, placing the bowl directly on to your body and simply allowing the acoustic vibrations to move through your sternum.2. Practice Qigong – join our 20-minute lunchtime Qigong practice with Sen Wellness Founder Sam on Monday 24th August at 12pm BST on Instagram Live, or watch on replay.3. Try tapping on your energy meridians, particularly those directly under your collar bones (tip: these spots will probably feel sore if you press into them). Photo by Conscious Design on Unsplash

Benefits of meditation

Meditation enriches life and the ability to function more effectively in this stressful world. Everything is in our own hands. We plant the seeds of our future here and now.  To meditate on a regular basis will calm the mind and body and teach you to accept yourself truly in the act of just being. When meditating one can perfect body, speech and mind.  If your mind is agitated and confused, you will never be able to do anything effective with your body and speech. Through meditation, the mind becomes calm and clear and then life can be dealt with properly. Our true nature is perfect! Meditation is a necessary part of our lives. If you feel like you’ve accomplished everything and yet, feel you are not fulfilled then it is time to discover real fulfillment through this internal understanding. Start with 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening. Build up to 30 minutes and continue to stretch this time. It is not easy however the benefits with outweigh all. Even if the results are not immediately visible, the changes happen. It can take time, yet it will definitely come. Meditating is the accumulation of true wealth that can never be taken away, even by death itself. Therefore, learning how to calm our mind in order to advance insight is truly essential.

Somerset “The Spiritual Nature of Life” – Find your Inner Peace

We hosted our early summer retreat “The Spiritual Nature of life” at the beautiful 42 Acres Retreat in Frome, Somerset. It was a magical couple of days spent to help everyone who came along rejuvenate and find inner peace.  View this post on Instagram We are back in Somerset ✨ where our friends from holistic healthcare clinic @ourbreathoflife are holding a long weekend of rejuvenation through kundalini yoga, osteopathy, acupuncture, massage and delicious Sri Lankan food at 42 Acres. They’ll be taking over this account to share a little of their experience with you ✨ This photograph is magic @marenlander_kundalini and her gong by the oak trees at 42. #breathoflife #42acres #kundalini #yoga #osteopathy #massage #nourishment #holistic #health #nature #wellness #retreat #rejuvenate #gong #sound #healing #somerset #meditation #instagram #takeover A post shared by 42 Acres Retreat (@42acresretreat) on May 27, 2016 at 3:14am PDT 5 days of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, Cranial Osteopathy, Body Work, Acupuncture, Gong Sound Healing, Shamanic Cacao and Fire Ceremonies, Dance, Delicious Vegetarian Food to help everyone who came along find their own inner peace. Our wonderful teacher Maren Lander started our Cacao ceremony, a truly fantastic ceremony which allows us to have a sacred time and space for ourselves away from the stresses of everyday life. It is the perfect ceremony to switch off from a hectic and busy lifestyle, and to focus on the silence and peace within ourselves. It helps us to become clearer on who we are, where it is we may be going, and what is available to us in terms of opportunities. It also helps to shift emotional baggage, to let go of the past and find your way. If you simply need to lift your spirits or want to connect with yourself, a Cacao ceremony can help you regain the focus you need to become a happier you. As day turns to light, we end our days around a fire, being at one with nature. The fire ceremony is magical, as with the stars over our heads, we all reflect on our time here and what we have learnt about ourselves. We hope to see you soon at our retreats, our London clinic, or at our Sanctuary in Sri Lanka! “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” Rumi Yasmin

Sen Wellness Sanctuary – Easter Retreat

Easter and the season of Spring carry the energies of rebirth, transformation, and renewal, a journey that, both individually and collectively, we are being called to undertake through current events and circumstances. The Sen Wellness team has been reflecting on how best to support you, our community, at this time and has curated a 7 Day Easter Retreat for you to participate in from the comfort of your home. Starting on Easter Monday, 13th April, and running until Sunday 19th April, the retreat will provide you with the structure, tools, and energetic ‘container’ in which to be supported to go inward, spend time with yourself, and find balance and calm. The retreat will include morning rituals, daily Kundalini Kriyas and meditations, evening yin yoga and yoga nidra, mantra chanting, sound healing and breath work, as well as resources and guidance to help boost your wellbeing. Many of these will be delivered by Sen Wellness teachers, familiar faces to those of you who have been on one of our retreats. To support this healing journey, we recommend that you abstain from consuming coffee, alcohol and sugar, reduce internet and social media usage where possible, and nourish your body with wholesome vegetarian food. We invite you to share your experience, including any thoughts and reflections you have throughout the seven days via Instagram and Facebook, tagging @senwellnesssanctuary (Instagram) and @SenWellness (Facebook) in your posts. From this engagement we will be awarding two prizes at the end of the retreat to a winner and runner up – a Seven Day Spiritual Warrior Bespoke Retreat at the Sanctuary in Sri Lanka, and a treatment package at the London Clinic. We will announce the winners on social media and notify them by email on Friday 24th April. Please either email us or send us a DM with your email address to receive the daily emails with details of the programme and links to classes and healing sessions.

Coming Home: July Gathering

We are conscious that while technology has played an essential role keeping us connected in recent months, with many parts of the world now slowly starting to open up there will likely be more opportunities to gather with community in person. We will therefore be transitioning our online healing series Coming Home, to a bimonthly (every two months) format. This month, we warmly invite you to the next instalment of Coming Home, taking place on Saturday 18th July at 9am BST (10am CEST, 6pm AEST). The event will be around 1 hour and 20-30 minutes. Sen Wellness Founder and renowned healer, Sam Kankanamge, will host and facilitate a group energy healing session, and we are delighted to have guest practitioner Marco Ardani joining us, along with Buddhist Monk Ven Nimal. Marco is a sacred musician who guides people to tap into the therapeutic potential of singing, sounding & toning. In this session, he will lead us through tools and practices from his body of work, VOCA SOMA®, a holistic system which guides people to discover the therapeutic potential of their own voice for a deeper sense of embodied connection, emotional resilience, and authentic expression. We will be using breathing patterns, visualisations and movements to connect voice, body and breathe. These are practices that everyone can do regardless of experience. In fact, rather than skill, the most important aspect engaging this work is a willingness and courage to listen, be curious, to discover and to play. You can prepare in advance by finding a quiet space for the session and setting up a mat or comfortable space to sit with a cushion and blanket. Please register here in advance for the gathering and you will be sent a Zoom link.

Coming Home: Monthly Healing Series

As lockdown is extended in many parts of the world Sen Wellness is here to continue supporting you. While we can choose not to engage with the constant stream of pandemic-related news, the tendency to live in our heads can easily disrupt our natural state of calm and peace as we fixate on the past and project into the future. We have created our new monthly healing series, Coming Home, to provide a space for you to connect more deeply with yourself, help you to be more grounded and present, and gather with like-minded, conscious community across the globe. Coming Home will be on the third second Saturday of each month, with the first gathering taking place this Saturday 16th May at 9am BST (10am CEST, 6pm AEST). Sen Wellness’ Founder, Sam Kankanamge, will host with the Buddhist Monk Ven Nimal, and a different guest teacher or practitioner each month. In May, our resident yoga teacher, Pleuni Van Hulten, will be sharing an embodiment and mantra singing practice. Sam will also facilitate a group healing session. We warmly invite you to join us on Saturday by registering here.
