Sen Wellness Sanctuary

I stayed here for 6 days and I wish I had more days!

I needed a "reset" from the hustle and bustle of New York and I came here without that much expectations. What I found here was a pleasant surprise.

Food - the food was very healthy (not traditional Western salads healthy). It may be challenging for some as other than eggs, no animal protein is provided. However, it was overall extremely healthy - everything was made in house, even sauces and peanut butter.

Treatments - I really thought there would only be 1-2 treatments a day but to my shock, you get 3-5 treatments a day. In addition, you could also do special sessions with the owner (Dr Sam) if he is visiting. My sessions with the team and Dr Sam were incredibly helpful to relieve my anxiety.

Fixed Schedule - if you want to reset and not think about anything, this is the perfect place. Everything is thought about for you - food, activities, daily treatments. Literally all you have to do is show up and relax.

Yoga, Breathwork and Community - Most importantly, I loved the sanctuary because of the yoga and the community. There are sessions with the yoga teacher, a breathwork teacher, and a monk.

A Truly Transformative Ayurvedic Experience
I had the most wonderful stay at this Ayurvedic retreat. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, cared for, and completely at ease. The staff were not only professional but also genuinely warm and attentive, making me feel like part of their family.

The Ayurvedic consultations were thorough and insightful, with treatments tailored perfectly to my needs. Each therapy session was deeply relaxing, and I could feel my stress melting away day by day. The massages, herbal remedies, and healing rituals were authentic and done with so much skill and compassion.

The food was another highlight – delicious, nourishing, and beautifully prepared according to Ayurvedic principles. I left each meal feeling light yet satisfied, and I could truly feel the difference in my energy levels and overall wellbeing.

The peaceful setting of the retreat made the whole experience even more special. Surrounded by nature, I found the time and space to disconnect, reflect, and recharge. By the end of my stay, I felt rejuvenated, balanced, and more in tune with myself than I have in years.

I can’t recommend this retreat highly enough to anyone seeking deep relaxation, healing, or simply a reset from everyday life.

Thanks to all the staff , Dr Chamodi, Madu,Sam , Alex and Mariana ! This place is in my heart i will definitely come back !
I was part of the Golden Summer Retreat at Zen Wellness Sanctuary, and it was a truly beautiful time for me. The sanctuary is a magical place, located between a lagoon and the ocean, right in the middle of nature. The sea is wild, and the beach is empty, clean, and natural – perfect for long walks after morning yoga, watching the sunset in the evening, or looking up at the stars at night. Everything was very well organized. The Ayurvedic treatments were excellent, and the team of therapists did a really wonderful job.
The food was really excellent, and meals were always shared together, which created a warm sense of community. This makes the retreat also very suitable for solo travelers, as it is easy to connect with others. There were also many extra activities. One special highlight for me was the trip to the beach in the afternoon, where we practiced breathwork at sunset – an unforgettable experience. I also enjoyed the meditations, the visit of a monk, and the different workshops, which were all very enriching.
I especially loved the yoga classes with Mariana, as well as her breathwork session, which was a completely new and powerful experience for me. Overall, I spent a truly wonderful week at Zen Wellness Sanctuary, full of new impressions and experiences. I am very grateful for this time and would like to thank the whole team for everything.
My daughter and I stayed at Sen and participated in the dragonfly retreat. We had both been grieving the loss of a loved one and the time here helped us to heal and gather the necessary tools to continue to heal when we returned home. All of the staff were caring and knowledgeable in their practices and the food was something you need to experience. We are planning on coming back. Thank you Sen for having us.
While I was searching for a place for the perfect getaway, away from distractions and noise, I came across SEN. The reviews about this place were overwhelmingly positive, with only a few that slightly worried me. I wanted to clarify them so that anyone visiting afterward wouldn’t have to wonder about these points beforehand.

This is a magical place for both body and soul, mainly because of the wonderful and kind people working there, its unique location, and the harmony it exudes. I came here seeking relaxation, but I received so much more. The day begins with yoga. I read that many people didn’t enjoy these classes, but I had a completely different experience—they were excellent in my opinion. Suitable for everyone, they teach a love for the practice.

The food is exceptional varied, healthy, and perfect for a full detox, thanks to the head chef who is amazing and whom I warmly greet. The meals are incredibly good, diverse, and fresh. This is definitely a detox-focused diet, but it delivers great results.

The most important part of my stay became the care provided by Dr. Chamodi and her team. She is amazing and invaluable, taking care of every detail of your stay in line with Ayurvedic practice. Throughout the day, various treatments are offered, all of top-level quality. The massages and their Sri Lankan ambiance became something I deeply miss. Special greetings to Rasange, though the entire team is truly excellent.

SEN is a place with minor flaws, but they are minimal compared to what it offers. If you want to be fully prepared, here’s a tip: you need to be certain about the length of your stay, as management reserves the right not to negotiate the rate set upon arrival. So it’s worth deciding in advance how long you want to stay. Initially, I thought 14 days might be too long, but it turned out to be a wonderfully rejuvenating period.

Additionally, it’s worth bringing products other than Sri Lankan mosquito repellents, as there are many mosquitoes. If you prefer your own yoga mat and want it very clean, bring it along. The only aspect that could be improved is the beach towels and new yoga mats—they need replacement, but this is completely natural. This is a place strongly focused on wellbeing, so it may not bother you at all they are really good but could be little better. I was without mine and it works really fine so don't worry. Its an info for extra pedantic characters and their comfort zone.

Someone mentioned that massage towels are dirty, but that is not true. I checked and discussed this, and it simply isn’t the case. The cleaning stuff is amazing. Thank you guys. U are doing good job.

These are my only two notes. Otherwise, I want to say that this place is truly worth visiting. It has its own microclimate and energy. Located in a completely secluded area, if you value a private beach and being close to the sounds of the sea, this might be the best place in the world. I highly recommend it. Once again, I want to thank the entire team, both the doctors and all the staff, who ensure this place is so exceptional from management, the team from London, to every single employee. I adore you for your energy. Never lose it.
I believe we will meet again soon. Maks

Is July a Good Time to Visit Sri Lanka?

Is July a Good Time to Visit Sri Lanka? Sri Lanka in August: Best time to visit Sri Lanka? Special Summer Offers on Yoga Retreats & Wellness Programmes. Sri Lanka in July/August: Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka? If you’re wondering whether July or August is a good time to visit Sri Lanka, the answer depends on what you’re looking for. Despite the island’s tropical climate and mid-year monsoon season, Sri Lanka remains a captivating destination during these months, offering lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and exclusive wellness programmes. This travel guide breaks down the weather, regional highlights, local events, and why this might be the perfect season for a rejuvenating holiday in Sri Lanka. Tips for Visiting Sri Lanka in July Before planning your holiday in Sri Lanka, it helps to understand the island’s unique geography and how it shapes the experience. Sri Lanka is a year-round travel destination thanks to its two distinct monsoon seasons, which affect opposite coasts at different times of the year. In July, the south and west coasts (including Colombo, Galle, and Mirissa) experience the southwest monsoon, which brings occasional rain. However, showers are typically short and followed by sunshine, so they rarely disrupt travel plans. Meanwhile, the east coast (like Arugam Bay and Trincomalee) enjoys dry, sunny weather, ideal for beach holidays and surf adventures. Travel Tips for July: Stick to the East Coast for guaranteed sunshine and calm seas. If visiting the south or west, pack a light rain jacket and plan indoor activities like temple tours or spa treatments. July is considered off-peak for some parts of the island, so you’ll enjoy fewer crowds and lower prices on accommodation and wellness retreats. Book your tour of Sri Lanka with flexibility to account for occasional rainy days. Festivals and Events in Sri Lanka in July Cultural immersion is one of the best reasons to visit Sri Lanka, and July offers a glimpse into the island’s spiritual and celebratory side. Key Events in July: Esala Perahera (Kandy): One of Asia’s most magnificent festivals, this Buddhist event features processions with elephants, dancers, fire performers, and drummers. It usually falls between late July and early August. Vel Festival (Colombo): A major Hindu celebration honouring Lord Murugan, this colourful parade showcases vibrant traditions, music, and deep spiritual significance. These festivals make July a fascinating time to visit Sri Lanka for culture lovers, though it’s advisable to book accommodation early, especially in Kandy. Sri Lankan July Weather The weather in Sri Lanka in July varies by region due to the island’s dual monsoon systems. Understanding this helps travellers make the most of their trip. Temperatures in Sri Lanka in July and August Across most of the island, daytime temperatures in July and August range from 28°C to 32°C. Even during rainy spells, the air remains warm and tropical. Colombo and the southwest coast: Expect high humidity, with occasional showers mostly in the afternoons or evenings. East coast (Arugam Bay, Trincomalee): Hot and dry, perfect for beach days, swimming, and surfing. Hill country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya): Cooler temperatures around 18°C to 24°C and misty mornings, offering a refreshing contrast. While rain is common in the southwest during July, it rarely lasts all day. Most travellers still enjoy their holiday in Sri Lanka with minimal disruptions. Special Summer Wellness Programmes One of the lesser-known joys of travelling to Sri Lanka in July is the availability of exclusive summer wellness retreats. Many retreat centres and luxury resorts offer special packages focused on healing, relaxation, and spiritual growth. From Ayurveda detoxes and yoga immersions to breathwork, meditation, and organic cuisine, the island’s wellness offerings are tailored to both new and experienced travellers. Why July Is Ideal for Wellness Visiting Sri Lanka in July offers a unique opportunity to embark on a deeply enriching wellness journey. While some travellers may shy away from the monsoon season, those seeking tranquillity, rejuvenation, and authentic healing will find this time especially rewarding. Here’s why: Peaceful Environments with Fewer Tourists: July falls within the island’s off-peak tourist season for much of the south and west coasts. This means fewer crowds, more privacy, and a slower pace of life, ideal conditions for rest and introspection. Wellness retreats and meditation centres become peaceful sanctuaries where guests can immerse themselves fully in nature and self-care without distractions. Whether you’re practising yoga on a secluded beach, meditating in a forest hut, or receiving an Ayurvedic massage, the environment nurtures deep mental and emotional clarity. Affordable Rates on High-End Wellness Stays: During the high season (typically December to April), luxury resorts and wellness sanctuaries can be fully booked and significantly more expensive. However, in July, many of these exclusive properties offer special summer rates, making it more accessible to experience the highest quality of wellness offerings. Travellers from Europe, the UK, or North America can take advantage of favourable exchange rates and enjoy longer stays for less. This allows for a more immersive retreat, one where the body and mind can truly reset without feeling rushed. Monsoon Rains Contribute to Lush Greenery and a Calm Atmosphere: While the word monsoon might evoke images of relentless storms, in Sri Lanka, the rains are often short-lived and typically arrive in the late afternoon or evening. Far from being a disruption, the monsoon brings a sense of rhythm and renewal to the island. The landscapes become vibrant and green, the air is fresh and cool, and the ocean breeze carries the scent of rain-soaked earth. This naturally soothing environment plays a crucial role in wellness practices, especially in Ayurveda, where nature’s elements are used to restore internal balance. The sounds of gentle rain, rustling palm trees, and distant ocean waves create a meditative backdrop for healing and reflection. Moreover, the weather fosters slowness and stillness, encouraging you to turn inward, unplug from the outside world, and truly listen to your body’s needs. Whether it’s curling up with herbal tea after a detox treatment, journaling after a yoga class, or simply walking barefoot on the wet sand, every moment invites mindfulness. Ultimately, July in Sri Lanka offers the perfect environment for those yearning for more than just a holiday. It’s for the traveller seeking renewal – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The peacefulness, the affordability, and the nurturing quality
