Discover the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to find balance and relief for digestive problems.
IBS, also referred to as Grahani in Ayurveda is a digestive condition that results from a weakened Agni (digestive fire). This leads to undigested food and the build-up of Ama (toxins).
Rather than symptomatic treatment, Ayurveda approaches treatment on a whole being level to restore the balance of mind, body and spirit. While often characterised by its core symptoms, digestive discomfort and altered bowel habits, IBS is also closely related to emotional and psychological well-being.
Adapted to each patient’s dosha imbalances and the various triggers and symptoms of IBS they experience, the treatment protocol works through a combination of Panchakarma cleansing, herbal medicines, dietary changes and practices to calm the nervous system including yoga, meditation and nature connection.

The Sen Wellness Sanctuary is not a hotel or a spa resort. Sen is a commitment to ‘well-being’ in the fullest sense of the word. Here you begin your healing journey, drawing on the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, yoga, meditation and nourishing food, in a safe, heart-based space.
Nestled in between an idyllic stretch of sandy beach along the southern Sri Lankan coastline and a tranquil lagoon within the Rekawa Nature Reserve, we are an eco-conscious, authentic retreat centre, offering a healing and nurturing space for you to deeply rest and be cared for by our warm and dedicated team.
As winter approaches, the shorter daylight hours, colder temperatures and more time spent indoors can disrupt your circadian rhythms. To synchronise your body with the changing seasons and support your mental and physical well-being, consider incorporating the following practices into your daily routine:
- Even though the mornings are darker, try to wake up early and ensure a healthy sleep rhythm by waking up and going to bed at the same time each day.
- Begin your day with a hot and cold shower ritual: spend 5 minutes under hot water, follow 3 minutes under cold water. This revitalising practice releases endorphins, enhances blood circulation to the vital organs and helps you stay alert for the day ahead.
- Engage in a deep breathing exercise or chanting. Our recommendation is to listen to the Ra Ma da Sa meditation (link in bio).
- Catch the morning sunlight: Our circadian rhythm is regulated by environmental cues, such as light and dark. Take a 15-minute stroll outdoors to soak in some natural light early on in the day.
- Take some time to reflect and set intentions for the day ahead with some journaling or offering a personal prayer to your inner spirit.
- Enjoy a warm nutrient-rich breakfast such as porridge, with some Cacao to open the heart and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
- Listen to Your Body: If your body signals the need for rest during the day, allow yourself some time to relax.
- Follow a regular meal schedule and opt for a light dinner. The same environmental cues that regulate your sleep schedule also influence hormones related to appetite, digestion and metabolism. Aligning your eating schedule with your waking schedule can restore your circadian rhythm, improve sleep quality and promote healthy hunger cues.
- Minimise exposure to artificial light at night, as it can interfere with your sleep patterns.

“A seamless blend of modern architecture, positioned lovingly amidst the untamed beauty of Sri Lanka’s wilderness” – Dubai Times
Built with the utmost sensitivity towards the surrounding ecosystem, the Sanctuary space showcases eco-conscious architecture and bespoke design that celebrates the artistry of local craftsmen.
The main building and cabanas embrace a circular design that mimics the shape of the conical shell, drawing earth energy up from the land and encouraging a continuous flow of Prana throughout the space. The boundaries between the inside and outside dissolve, providing an immersive and harmonious experience with nature.
Every detail has been considered to enhance our guest’s healing journey:
A yoga shala that overlooks the lush forest treetops.
An outdoor swimming pool, a stone’s throw from the ocean.
A communal dining area for shared meals and gatherings.
Until the beginning of February, our daily yoga and meditation classes, sound healing and ceremonies will be led by @tseyangyoga, our senior yoga and meditation teacher.
With roots in India and Tibet, Tseyang’s journey began in a Monastery in India. Well-versed in many different styles of yoga, she finds the most profound practice to be through hatha yoga, including asana alignment, pranayama and meditation. Her classes often incorporate the healing resonance of the Tibetan singing bowls.
Each morning begins with an energising and revitalising sunrise yoga and meditation session. At 6:00 a.m., we gather at the yoga shala or on the beach to welcome the day and rise with the sun. We allow the gentle rhythm of the waves to guide our breathe.
As an authentic retreat centre, we embrace the Sanskrit concept of ‘dinacharya’, which means ‘to be close to the day’. We synchronise the daily routine with the rhythms of nature, to help regulate your internal biological clock, reset your nervous system, balance hormone levels, and support elevated mood and well-being.
